Puzzletober 2025: Rowdy

The front door of the abandoned wooden cabin creaks open slowly. There are only three rooms, one of which is essentially an outhouse. Much like the hotel, it has no electricity; however, its only source of lighting is the reflection from the moon. The newcomer sets the oil lamp on an unpainted wall's familiar wooden shelf away from any windows that might counteract its warmth. It does not take long for the three of them to find a rug of the right size.

With an air of loneliness, one of the rug holders admits, "I truly wish Anastasia were here today. She's always here." The other says, "Why, so you wouldn't have to be out here? I know you wanted to avoid this." "To tell you the truth, I've grown a bit fond of her." The other lets go of the rug and says, "Trust me, you'd have better luck with Ophelia." "What the hell? You know that's a poor choice of words." "I won't let you have her. I won't." "Since when are you calling all the shots?!" Things are about to get rowdy. The newcomer, who had been silent during the exchange, slips into the bathroom and braces for the worst.

Rules: The goal is to draw a path within the grid that starts and ends on the circles. The path may move horizontally, vertically, and 45-degree-diagonally, and may cross itself provided it does not turn at the crossing. A path segment is defined as a straight line segment connecting two turns or a circle and a turn.

This puzzle is a doppelganger with the following extended rulesets:

  • Any two consecutive path segments must have lengths that differ by no more than 1. The path may only make smooth (135-degree) turns. The path must not pass through any walls, nor brush against them.
  • Any two consecutive path segments must have lengths that differ by at least 1. The path may only make sharp (45-degree) turns. The path must not pass through any walls, but may brush against them.
